As Thanksgiving approaches, it is typical to begin thinking about the many things for which we are grateful. Last year, my blog featured my list of things I was thankful for that related to public education. This year, I am going to focus on my personal blessings.
For me, Thanksgiving is the "kick-off" to the holiday season that focuses on those I love most—my family. Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, there will be many opportunities for family gatherings. We will share delicious meals and carry on special family traditions. These weeks are some of the happiest moments for me because the gift for which I am most thankful is my family.
He has been my best friend for 36 years. His unconditional love and support have helped me become who I am today. We have been able to build the life we dreamed of—thanks to the blessing of good health and good opportunities. I love our dates to concerts and the golf course!
I had no idea how much being a parent would change my life until Mike arrived. He has filled my life with joy (at least 90% of the time!) and made me very proud. I cherish the memories of watching him grow into the young man he is today. I value the relationship we have and the time we spend together. I particularly enjoy playing Challenge Trivia and sharing logic puzzles with him!
I always wanted a spunky girl, and Lisa fulfilled that wish. Raising a daughter was very different than raising a son, but equally joyous. She has grown into a young woman who fills my heart with pride. I value our mother-daughter relationship and the special times we share getting pedicures, attending the theatre, and working on jigsaw puzzles.
As a parent, you want your children to experience loving relationships in their lives. I am grateful that my son found a young woman who enriches his life in so many ways. I am also grateful for the relationship I have developed with Elizabeth—a fellow teacher! She brings much laughter and joy to our family.
I wish the entire FCPS family a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Celebrate the blessings in your life!
