The Year of Hope

As we welcomed the new year 2021, people across the globe looked to the future and overcoming the global pandemic. We embraced “hope” for better days ahead.

My mindset and focus for 2021 is hope. While the pandemic continues challenging us in so many ways, we must remain hopeful. Scientists continue conducting critically important research, which will help us overcome. The available vaccines are the byproducts so many talented individuals working together to solve a problem. The example they have set should provide hope for all of us that working together to creatively solve problems will lead us to a better future.

My focus on hope goes beyond the pandemic. In 2020, we witnessed many horrific events that demonstrate our country still has a long way to go to achieve the vision of equity and to lessen the divisiveness among us. Where will we find hope to overcome these issues? Our students.

As part of our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, talented students from the Academy of Fine Arts delivered a message of hope that is far more powerful than any words I can offer. As you watch the video, consider how you can answer the “call.”
